Proper ROPE care!!

So how do you keep ropes used for bondage, and suspension clean, and sanitized without damaging them? Here are some do's and don'ts of rope care.

What you should NOT ever do to a rope:

  1. Do not use bleach of any concentration or dilution on ropes. it has been proven to weaken the fibers greatly.
  2. Do not expose ropes to high temperatures!
  3. Do not use strong soaps
  4. Do not allow a rope to become soiled and left lying around, fungus growth can breakdown the fibers.

How do you clean your ropes? Here is a best practice for dealing with soiled ropes, or ropes that may have come in contact with body fluids.

  1. double the rope over, then braid the rope to shorten it's length.
  2. Place the rope in a clothes washer, and use the pre-soak mode if the rope is soiled. Use WOOLLITE dark or regular, and the gentle cycle on the machine, and use an extra rinse cycle.
  3. Soak the rope in a 5 gallon plastic bucket for about 30 minutes, Fill the bucket with a steramine solution, 1 tablet per gallon of water.
  4. Remove the rope and dry over a rod or clothes line, the rope is now cleaned and disinfected.
  5. You can use this procedure for nylon/polyester harnesses as well.
